Invisalign/ Invisible Braces in Edmonton

Invisalign is a technique used to align crooked teeth and correct bad bites (malocclusion). It is commonly used for adult orthodontics and for people who don’t want the look of braces but want beautiful smiles.
Dr Alhomsi at Motivo Dental is a registered Invisalign provider.

WHAT IS INVISALIGN?

nvisalign consists of making transparent, almost invisible trays that are custom-made for each patient. They are made of smooth plastic that is compatible with the oral environment. These trays are clear and fit your teeth perfectly, when you have treatment with invisalign you get a set of trays and you need to change the tray every 10-14 days.

HOW DOES INVISALIGN WORK?

Invisalign applies a gentle force on your teeth, so they move slowly in the desired direction. The movement of the teeth is simulated on a software, and the invisalign trays are manufactured according to this software. Each tray will move your teeth a bit, and then you have to use the next tray in the series until the treatment goal is reached.

HOW LONG IT TAKES TO FINISH INVISALIGN TREATMENT?

The length of the treatment really depends on the severity of the case. As mentioned above, each invisalign tray will move the teeth a bit, so small cases will be finished faster than complicated cases. Usually the invisalign treatment will take between few months to one or two years.

WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE OF USING INVISALIGN OVER BRACES?

Aesthetics: Invisalign is almost invisible. People usually cannot see that you are wearing the invisalign tray, which makes Invisalign more cosmetic than using the traditional braces.

Comfort: Invisalign trays fit your teeth perfectly. They are smooth so they don’t hurt your tongue, lips, or cheeks, and they don’t affect your speech. They don’t affect your eating either because you are required to take them out of your mouth when you eat.
Hygiene: Invislaign trays are removable, so you take them out when you eat, and no food will stick on them as what happens with traditional or lingual (invisible) braces. On the other hand, you can brush and floss your teeth as usual without the need for a special brushing technique as you may need when traditional braces are used.

this makes Invisalign superior to Invisible braces that may be invisible but so much uncomfortable.

INVISALIGN LIMITS:

After the above mentioned advantages of Invisalign, why don’t we use Invisalign for all orthodontic cases? Why do we still use Braces? Unfortunately Invisalign cannot be used for all cases of malocclusion, and many cases still need Braces. Your dentist/ orthodontist will tell you if Invisalign is good for you.

First you need to have a consultation with the dentist, then the dentist will take the necessary pictures and x-rays.

The second step is to create a simulation of the treatment on a software called the Clincheck, which enables the dentist to show you how your teeth will move and the approximate outcome of the treatment. If you are happy with that outcome, the trays will be manufactured. About 1-2 weeks later the first tray will be inserted and the instructions how to properly use them will be provided. You need to visit the dentist every 8 weeks to verify the treatment progress and do any necessary adjustments.

WHY SHOULD YOU TREAT CROOKED TEETH AND MALOCCLUSION?

Crooked teeth are not pleasant to look at, but they may also cause more troubles than cosmetics: mal-aligned teeth are hard to brush and floss, which can lead to food accumulation between the teeth. This can also lead to dental cavities, bad breath, and gum inflammation. Crooked teeth may also cause a bad bite, which can cause damage to the teeth, the gum, the bone, the muscles, and the temporomandibular joints.
