Fillings (Tooth Decay)

Tooth decay is a disease that damages and breaks down tooth structure, forming a cavity or “hole” in the tooth. The more layers affected by the decay, the worse the damage, and typically, the more pain associated.

To restore the tooth, Dr. Alhomsi “fills” the cavity with a tooth-colored composite material. It is important to diagnose the decay as early as possible to keep the cavity small and preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. Cavities on the external surfaces of the teeth can be diagnosed visually, but cavities in between the teeth, known as interproximal decay or “flossing” cavities, can only be detected with x-rays, which are taken each year at your recall examinations.
