TMD/Bruxism Night guards Edmonton
Do you wake up with jaw pain? Have you broken a tooth chewing or biting into something? Have you noticed your teeth getting shorter or gums receding as you age? You may be clenching or grinding your teeth.
Many of us develop these habits and may be completely unaware of it! As your dental team here at Motivo Dental, we are typically the first to notice the signs of clenching and grinding, a condition called “bruxism”, and want to protect your teeth before irreversible damage is done. Normal chewing forces exert approximately 200-300 PSI (pounds per square inch) of pressure on your teeth, whereas clenching or grinding can exert up to a whopping 800 PSI!
A nightguard doesn’t stop these habits, but is worn at night to protect your teeth from the damaging effects of bruxism. To help correct the habit, we may recommend a referral to a TMJ (temporomandibular joint) specialist.
Best for: Individuals with jaw pain, broken teeth, worn teeth, recession due to bruxism, and anybody who is aware of a clenching and/or grinding habit.
